THE "IMDB" PREMISE:

"Nancy Stokes, a 55-year-old widow, is yearning for some adventure, human connection, and some sex--some good sex."

OUR MOVIE REVIEW:

Emma Thompson is 63 years old, and let me tell you... she’s still got it. In Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, she teams up with 29-year-old Irish actor Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders) for a sweet, funny tale about finding pleasure at any age — and she bares it all in the process.

Thompson plays 55-year-old Nancy, a widow who has finally moved on enough from the death of her husband to take on a new “adventure” in the form of an attractive young male escort.

The slick, sex-positive drama-comedy takes every overused male-female relationship trope and throws them out the window, and it’s refreshing to see that typical older man/younger woman dynamic shaken up. Thompson’s take on a bumbling, inexperienced and awkward widow is charming, and her chemistry with McCormack is obvious enough to make a gal blush.

The characters’ age difference leads to some inevitable discussions about life, regret, and even mother-son relationships. It’s very dialogue-heavy, giving the film a “from-stage-to-screen” sort of feel, and we learn tidbits of information throughout 90 minutes that hint the pair’s meeting may be just as meaningful for Leo as it is for Nancy.

Overall, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is a film about self-exploration and self-acceptance, and it’s a great reminder that we’re never too old to reinvent ourselves.
