HOW I MET YOUR FATHER - SEASON 1  (2022) | The First 2

THE "IMDB" PREMISE:

"Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options."

OUR [TO THE POINT] REVIEW:

How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is a Hulu spinoff of the incredibly popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) that ran from 2005 to 2014. HIMYM remains one of my favorite sitcoms of all time, it’s honestly a comfort show if anything else and even the less than desirable conclusion to the show couldn’t hold my love back for the series as a whole.

HIMYF feels like it’s been in the works since HIMYM officially went off the air with nothing actually coming into fruition. Now eight years later we finally get that spinoff and in its first two episodes it semi-succeeds in bringing back the charm of the original with its new cast of characters.

Let’s be honest, you spend 9 years with a show, or in my case a few years binging and you get attached to these characters and bringing in a new, more modern cast in the year 2022 (the year the show is actually set) seems at first a little off putting. But once the show starts getting into its narrative ever so slowly in the combined hour of the first two episodes, I can totally see this show growing into something special - probably nowhere near what the original brought but there are certainly possibilities.

Hilary Duff as our lead was my biggest worry - beyond loving her in Lizzie McGuire when I was little I’ve never been a big fan of her as an actress - albeit she has stayed out of the spotlight for the majority of years since. So when she actually starts off the show with a cringe-worthy joke about her phone being “hungry” my worries seemed to be confirmed; however soon after she actually got into the groove of things and the script welcomed her with open arms. The supporting cast has potential as well with Christopher Lowell, Suraj Sharma, Tien Tran, Tom Ainsley and Francia Raisa making up the friend group the show centers around with Duff playing this show’s Ted role AKA Sophie.

While I’m not entirely won over by these first two episodes, they are such a fast watch that it’s easy to see that this season (once all episodes are released) will be a quick watch. The fun thing about the series is that this isn’t a reboot, it is in fact a spinoff of the original series and therefore for true fans that stick it out they might find worthwhile Easter eggs. The fact of the matter is How I Met Your Mother and How I Met Your Father do coincide in not only the same universe but in fact the same exact city.

CONCLUSIVE VERDICT:

Thanks For Reading!
