"A people-pleaser recently back in the dating pool goes on an ill-advised date with a sexually submissive man to prove to her doubtful friends that she could totally be a dom."
OUR MOVIE REVIEW:
There’s not a ton of nuance in a title like I Could Dom – what you see is what you get in Madison Hatfield’s cheeky comedy about a woman set on exploring her bossy side in the bedroom.
Hatfield plays June, a people-pleasing yes-girl who is hellbent on proving she is no shrinking violet between the sheets. Her admittedly submissive friends don’t even try to hide their doubt when June utters the titular line. But June has something to prove. She sets up an account on a Dom/Sub dating app called “Sneaky Lynx,” where she makes a date with Jeff (Derek Evans). Clad in a full leather getup (complete with comical squeaking sounds), June shows up at Jeff’s for a date that winds up being less BDSM and more LMAO.
Hatfield is charming and effortlessly funny; never overdoing a shtick that could easily slide into overacting territory. I don’t love that June only goes into this rendezvous because she feels the need to show up her friends, though her truer subconscious intentions are eventually brought to light. Overall it’s a cute short film that’s surprisingly wholesome considering the subject matter.
