OUR MOVIE REVIEW:

Naomi Watts carries the film with her performance, but she wasn’t given much to work with Infinite Storm. This is unfortunate because this film could have been an emotion fueled retelling of a true story but instead ended up detaching itself, resting on the crutch of the extreme physical conditions that the story centers around to stir short term reactions without a lasting effect. The narrative could have benefitted from diving into Pam Bales (Watts) life and back story, to create investment in the person. Yes, I cared about her and the lost climber because they are humans and I would prefer they stay alive and get out of the situation they are in–but I had no emotional investment in her character because I didn’t know her at all before she went out on the mountain. The climber she eventually (spoiler alert) saves was a complete jerk, so I really had no investment in him either. The two have a very clumsy meeting later after they have recovered from their journey, and this is really the only real heart of the film other than the few flashback moments we have of Bales past where she is almost manically emotional. Overall I was disappointed and just felt myself waiting for the film to end. Don’t waste your time.
