BLURAY/DVD REVIEW: 'KEVIN CAN F**K HIMSELF' (2021) [RLJE FILMS]
KEVIN CAN F**K HIMSELF - SEASON 1 IS NOW AVAILABLE ON BLURAY/DVD
Kevin Can F**k Himself is a refreshing entry to the 30 minute drama/comedy category. Utilizing a multi-camera sitcom style format that turns into a darker bleak single camera drama when Allison (Annie Murphy) is not around her husband Kevin (Eric Peterson).
This show is genuinely funny and does a fantastic job nailing some lines you would typically hear on one of those cringey ABC, FOX, NBC, or CBS multi camera sitcoms. What makes it even funnier is that its poking fun at those multi camera sitcoms but yet knows how to do the format better than most of them. If it were just the sitcom element the show would be one of the best you could ask for. When it switches to single camera,(again anytime Kevin or his friends aren't around) that's where you get the drama that this show centers around. This show transitions between those two styles incredibly well.
In Kevin Can F**k Himself It doesn't take long for the viewer to realize that Kevin and his friends are idiots. The way Kevin views Annie, and treats her, allows the audience to relate with Annie's frustration, emptiness, and anger. Now you may not continue to relate with her choices she and her newly befriended Patty (Mary Hollis Inboden) make as the season goes along but it makes for a sharply written, entertaining, and funny as hell work of television. At a brisk 8 episodes for Season 1 this show has me eager for the next and final season.
Created by Valerie Armstrong ("Lodge 49"), Kevin Can F**K Himself is directed by Anna Dokoza (“Up All Night,” "Flight of the Conchords") and Oz Rodriguez (Vampires vs. the Bronx, "A.P. Bio"). The series stars Emmy winner Annie Murphy (“Schitt’s Creek”), Mary Hollis Inbodin ("The Righteous Gemstones"), Eric Peterson (“Kirstie”), Alex Bonifer (“Superstore”), Brian Howe (“Vice Principals”), and Raymond Lee (“Here and Now”).
Now available on Digital, Blu-ray, DVD and to stream on AMC+. The physical releases come with the following extras:
