More Twists, turns, humor, and heart await in season 2 of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, a mystery-comedy starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez.

 

Taking place right after the season 1 finale, our podcasting heroes attempt to solve the murder they’ve been framed for, while also balancing aspects of their life that arise following their newfound fame. This season is also diving deeper into the backstory of its characters, including some of the side characters that appeared back in season 1.

 

The mystery here is even more complicated than the first. Where season 1’s mystery felt a little predictable, especially if you’ve seen modern noir or even Psych. Season 2 is more convoluted in its mystery, but notably thought through. By the end of episode 8, which is where our early access ends, the pieces start to fall into place. However, with still 2 more episodes to go, how long will that be the case? 

 

Alongside this new brain teaser of a mystery is a subplot that really pulls at the heartstrings involving Charles (Steve Martin) and someone from his past. This season of Only Murders in the Building is more emotionally engaging, as it finds the tone it wants to live in. It allows itself to be a little cartoon-y with its humor, a little bloody to counter the cozy atmosphere, and never shies away from wearing its heart on its sleeve.

 

Fans of Only Murders in the Building are going to enjoy this continuation and anyone who liked the first season will most likely have more appreciation in this second serving.
