OUR DOCUMENTARY REVIEW:

This is the longest it has ever taken me to write a review. I struggled because this story is so impossibly horrific. I wish it was not a true story. I am a huge true crime junkie, I’ve seen it all. I take pride in the material I am able to consume, although I have to admit that sometimes I have to take a break from my true crime consumption because it can be overwhelming at times. Like many people, I am fascinated with true crime because I am trying to understand it. I cannot begin to wrap my head around how a human can do such heinous things. The more true crime I consume the more I can sometimes become desensitized to it–but the Mortician is a whole different story.

I think like most people, I assume that people in the end of life  industry are extremely empathetic and sympathetic and ultimately care about people and the respect for their lives. Think the total and complete opposite with the infamous family run funeral home and mortuary: The Lamb Funeral Home run by The Sconce’s. David Sconce is the coldest, cruelest one that unravels this entire story. He took over his family’s part of the business that dealt with the mortuary and human cremations. When he realizes how much business he can do by maximizing the amount of humans he can put in the mortuary to be cremated, not caring if he had to break bones to fit more bodies, or that loved ones were getting ashes of random strangers instead of their family members. True horror that will never make you trust another human ever again for anything.

The documentary uncovers more corruption of the Sconce/Lamb family and their terrible acts on people in their most vulnerable and some of the saddest moments of their lives. I felt betrayal for these strangers I didn’t even know and how you can trust someone to care for your loved one after they have passed–the hurt and helplessness they feel seeps through the television and makes your heart ache. How can anyone with a conscience do this to someone? I recommend proceeding with caution–this is not your average true crime documentary.
