THE WEEKEND AWAY (2022)

THE "IMDB" PREMISE:

"A weekend getaway to Croatia that goes awry when a woman is accused of killing her best friend. As she attempts to clear her name and uncover the truth, her efforts unearth a painful secret."

OUR [TO THE POINT] REVIEW:

The Weekend Away’s worst quality is its lead, Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), amongst an exhausting murder mystery that never quite hits any of its beats appropriately. For a mere 91 minutes this film is relentlessly dull and when the action beats kick in – they feel ill-timed, making the experience all the more expensing. While the cast surrounding Meester deliver a mixed bag of performances, none of them are able to heighten this poorly paced mystery past the level of a daytime soap opera with a decent-sized budget. Throwing at us a solution to the mystery that feels so obvious it could have hit us directly in the face; only to misdirect us into a finale that left me drowsy from the lack of suspense or concern.

CONCLUSIVE VERDICT:
