OUR MOVIE REVIEW:

What happens when your childhood best friend and yourself start to travel down separate paths? Adult Best Friends explores this notion of moving forward in life, while coming to terms with the reality of friendships of old. While not emerging with a wildly original premise, at the core lies two incredibly relatable human beings that are in the midst of going through changes.

When Katie gets engaged to a man that Delaney irrationally despises, Katie must take her best friend down memory lane on a weekend girls trip to break the news. Delaney Buffett as Delaney and Katie Corwin are the definition of a relationship everyone’s had in their past, a ride or die friendship that exudes chemistry. Surrounding this occasionally cringey dynamic between the pair as they clearly have grown apart in motivations over the years, are a robust selection of comedic dynamite. Zachary Quinto, Casey Wilson, Owen Thiele, Carmen Christopher, Michael Rowland, Cazzie David, along with the flirtatious Charlie played by Charlie Hines.

These supporting roles were made up of roommates, work colleagues, folks from the past and a group spending the weekend celebrating their own friend’s engagement. The latter being a direct reference to how the leads should be spending the weekend instead of tiptoeing around the truth. However, it’s not any of these incredibly charming individuals, radiating New Girl energy, that steal the show, but the fascinating vacation home owner, Dougie.

Cory Walls’ Dougie is a wild card, a nightmare of a host and a vibrant soul filled with mystery. His rules play a pivotal part in the story and ultimately steals every scene they’re involved in. As a weekend away that’s meant to insight happiness in reliving the past, is an awkward reminder that things have forever changed between the two.

Adult Best Friends is a hilarious feature directorial debut, featuring a stellar script by Delaney Buffett and Katie Corwin. An incredibly honest comedy about growing up and the turbulence that can occur while trying to maintain friendships along the way. Led by two terrific performances at the forefront, this friendship is genuine and full of heart - making the comedy hit hard and the drama hit even harder.
