Form of Release: Blu-ray - Vestron Video Collector's Series #33

ALL OF ME SYNOPSIS:

Dying millionaire Edwina Cutwater has her soul transferred into the body of younger, willing Terry Hoskins. However, something goes wrong, and she finds herself in her lawyer Roger Cobb's body - together with the lawyer.

Making its Blu-ray debut, this comedy classic starring legends Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin is a riotous tale of body-swapping misadventures. Bachelor Roger Cobb (Martin) is a lawyer who dreams of playing jazz. Edwina Cutwater (Tomlin) is a millionairess who dreams of inhabiting a new body. But the guru responsible for Edwina’s soul relocation goofs, and she ends up in a very different body…Roger’s! Now, with one half of himself controlled by Edwina — and his job and sanity in jeopardy — Roger is in for a wild and crazy ride that will show him both what manhood really means, and the hilarity that can result when two literally become one.

OUR FILM REVIEW

Despite some top of the line physical comedy by Steve Martin, the dynamic between him and the occupational spirit of Lily Tomlin can begin to grind some gears. The narrative itself is a fun supernatural romance and/or friendship that generates as the two spend more time merged into one.

The comedy when it comes to the insults being hurled back and forth between Tomlin and Martin can be a little repetitive, but the over the top physical element of one side of the body being controlled by the spirit while the other is controlled by the living inhabitant is delightful.

The film has a unique and fun, Freaky Friday-esque twist that wears off its value after some time. Sitting at only 93 minutes, this film appears more like an SNL skit gone on for far too long rather than a successful feature. Carl Reiner truly knows how to showcase his performers in the best possible light to support the ongoing plot and while the story may grind to a halt at times - Reiner’s gift at finding the humor in the bizarre remains intact.

This release from Lionsgate Limited is the first time the comedy has seen the light of day in physical high definition (aka Blu-ray) and it looks fantastic! Not only that but this #33 Vestron Collector’s Series includes a highly original cover art from Matthew Therrien that captures the film’s hilarious otherworldly hijinks. Plus a mixture of fun special features that solidify a worthy addition to the collection.
