ATTACK OF THE DOC! (2023)

MPAA: NR
Release Date: 04/24/23 [VOD]

"Before the rise of big tech, social media and Marvel movies, Attack of the Show. chronicled nerd culture's unlikely acceptance into mainstream. G4TV's flagship show launched the careers of hosts Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira and was beloved by fans - a unique celebration of geek culture before it was cool. Diving into colossal cream pies, wearing funny fat suits and putting internet servers where the sun don't shine - anything could happen on an episode of Attack of the Show. It's been years since the original show went off the air in 2005 and one question remains: what really happened to G4TV and Attack of the Show?"

OUR DOCUMENTARY REVIEW:

Attack of the Doc! is a nostalgia-fueled trip to a time when nerds could be nerds, people had a blast on air and G4TV “attacked” nightly! Utilizing clips of the good ole days of the network, we are given a delightful insight into some of the best times during Attack of the Show’s long run - featuring interviews with numerous behind the scenes talent.

If there’s a singular fault the film has, it’s the lack of direct interviews with the talent in front of the camera. It would have made for an even stronger foundation with Kevin Pereira, Olivia Munn, Candace Bailey or Sara Jean Underwood featured in the conversation. Nevertheless, the doc’s energetic editing provides the viewer a deep dive into the history of geek culture the network brought, while pinpointing G4TV's rise and sudden fall. Sitting at a breezy 87 minute runtime, Chris Gore’s Attack of the Doc! goes down smooth, like a sophisticated beverage with a naturally sentimental flavor embedded in its roots.

Attack of the Doc! showcases how one duo’s innate immaturity and dynamic comedic timing (with a powerhouse behind the scenes) won the hearts of so many and led a network into an unprecedented fandom that will never be forgotten. G4 will forever live on in our hearts and Attack of the Doc! reminds us why.
