OUR FILM REVIEW

A musical revolving around pop icon Robbie Williams, better known outside of the United States - Better Man is my personal introduction to the man and his music. A really creative take on being seen under the public eye as nothing more than a chimp for hire, the film is shockingly gorgeous to look at considering it stars a CGI monkey. 

The visuals aren’t the only thing to gloat over with this 4K UHD release, as the film harnesses the Dolby Vision and Atmos to make for a musical experience unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. The numbers are energetic and when necessary deeply emotional - a devastating take on Williams’ most notable song Angels tackling his addiction after his grandma’s passing.

A typical biopic heightened by Erik Wilson’s beautiful cinematography and sophisticated choreography - Michael Gracey sure knows how to put on a show. 

It’s Gracey’s ability to balance the serious, self reflective tone with that infectious energy, both of which are defining characteristics of Williams as a person and artist, that is a testament to how great Better Man is. The authenticity and openness that is on screen as Williams story, personal pitfalls and rockstar highs and all, plays out truly allows the audience to connect with him on a personal level, and not be kept at arm’s length like other celebrities may prefer when their time for a musical biopic arrives.
