BILLY MADISON SYNOPSIS:
In order to inherit his fed-up father Brian's hotel empire, immature and lazy Billy Madison must repeat grades one through twelve all over again. The further Billy progresses, the harder his hated rival Eric Gordon tries to stop him.
Comedy legend Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore) is about to go back to school—way back—in Billy Madison. He’s heir to the Madison Hotel millions, but the only subjects Billy has studied lately are babes and booze. For him, life has been a 10-year party since he left high school: catching rays by the pool, pulling moronic pranks and chasing anything in (or out of) a skirt. But when Brian Madison (Darren McGavin, Kolchak: The Night Stalker) informs his goofball son that he plans to turn over his Fortune 500 company to vice president/weasel Eric Gordon (Bradley Whitford, Get Out), Billy makes the bet of his life. He’s going back to school—grades 1 through 12 in 24 weeks!—with hilarious results. Can bona fide blockhead Billy clean up his act to win his father’s respect, the family fortune and the love of his beautiful teacher, Veronica Vaughn (Bridgette Wilson, Mortal Kombat)? Hey, it’s worth a shot! Directed by Tamra Davis (CB4, Half Baked) and featuring unforgettable performances by Chris Farley, Steve Buscemi and Norm Macdonald, Billy Madison wrote the book on laugh-riot lunacy!
OUR FILM REVIEW
Celebrating 30 Years, Sandler's first leading comedy outside of SNL, Billy Madison makes its way to 4K resolution. This latest offering from Kino Lorber is bright, crisp and better than ever in every way. The 90s were pure Sandler greatness: Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy - and now its better than ever for longtime fans.
The special features contain two audio commentaries, deleted scenes/outtakes and the original theatrical trailer. While with such an anniversary, I'd have loved a bit more bonus features to coincide with such a milestone - the features here are at the very least existent.
Billy Madison remains one of Sandler's most iconic films to date, it's purposefully immature and its an absolute delight. Billy Madison has always been my personal favorite of his 90s outings, you can't really go wrong with any of the options though. As a first time watcher, Billy Madison has its fair share of topical humor that just does not work in the modern era of comedy - however it’s almost nostalgic to reflect on this style of comedy that is so rare these days.
Fans of 90s comedies should be absolutely pleased with the level of upgrade this film has received, as Billy Madison has simply never looked better or sounded better than now!
