JASON X SYNOPSIS:

Jason Voorhees is cryogenically frozen at the beginning of the 21st century, and is discovered in the 25th century and taken to space. He gets thawed, and begins stalking and killing the crew of the spaceship that's transporting him.

Evil Gets An Upgrade

It is now time for Jason Voorhees to boldly go where no serial killer has gone before in Jason X, a spectacular sci-fi twist on the Friday the 13th franchise brought to life by legendary special effects supervisor Jim Isaac (Gremlins, eXistenZ).

The year is 2455, humanity has left an overly polluted Earth for a new planet they've christened Earth II. A crew of scientists on an expedition to Earth I discover a research facility near Camp Crystal Lake where Jason Voorhees' body has been cryogenically frozen. They decide to bring him back on their spaceship, but in so doing seal their doom! As they depart once again for the furthest stars, the masked maniac awakens, ready to kill again!

With fan favorite Kane Hodder returning as Jason this time sporting a new space age look, and some of the most creative kills in all of slasherdom, Jason X is a rollicking blast from take-off to landing!

OUR FILM REVIEW

Jason X is certainly one of the more puzzling entries in the Friday the 13th canon, yet it’s also the introduction to the franchise I had one Halloween long, long ago. Shot on Super 35 versus a digital counterpart, this upgrade to 4K UHD may not shatter expectations like Jason shatters someone’s skull in liquid nitrogen, but it’s still a massive improvement over previous versions of the film. With more choices in the CGI world than a typical Jason Voorhees spectacle, age doesn’t bode well for these effects - nor the decision to have a prominent part of the film take place in the shadows of darkly lit spaceship corridors. These are all choices made by the creative team and this 4K upgrade doesn’t assist in making the CGI look any better.

The sound design delivers, from the sounds of Jason walking down the halls to him executing his latest victim to those very victims taking aim at him with a spray of bullets - the audio sounds fantastic. Where the darkness can hinder the visual representation of Jason X, the audio never misses a beat and is a worthy addition to a fans’ collection.
