Problemista is both A24’s latest indie film and Emmy nominee Julio Torres’ feature directorial debut. 

 

Told as a surrealist fairy tale, the film follows a young aspiring toy designer from El Salvador named Alejandro (played by Torres), who struggles to survive in New York City after getting fired from his day job. In a desperate attempt to keep his work visa, he finds himself working for an erratic - and equally problematic - art-world outcast who may or may not have his best interests in mind.
