NINJA TERMINATOR SYNOPSIS:
Three martial-arts students search for the Golden Ninja Warrior, a statue reputed to have magic powers.
Neon Eagle Video is proud to present the first ever official HD release of the mind-melting martial arts cult classic Ninja Terminator!
As anyone who has seen the film knows, a description of the plot is almost impossible. More or less: a group of ninjas compete to control the ultimate artifact of their craft - the Golden Ninja Warrior statue! Meanwhile, a secret agent tries to bust up an organized crime ring that is somehow connected to the statue. But really, the plot is beside the point. Rather, it's the constant display of cheesy insanity onscreen that will keep you hooked from the first minute until the final battle!
After years of ugly-looking and legally dubious copies of the film making the rounds, we are hugely excited to bring to you its first ever authorized disc release in North America, restored from a 4K scan of the original negative and in its proper widescreen aspect ratio, along with a host of commentaries and interviews to provide the proper context for this unique film experience.
OUR FILM REVIEW
Set the state of the film itself aside, the production design and style the film is shot in is very sleek and unique. The audio transfer has some minor hiccups, most likely present in the original copies of the film from the 80s. A statement posted at the front front of the film features the following explanation:
"NINJA TERMINATOR is presented here from a 4K restoration of the original negative.
Due to storage issues and the general climate in Hong Kong, some damage is apparent here and there. Furthermore, these issues also affect the color of the film in some places. While many hours of work have gone into attempting to fix these problems through digital restoration and color grading, some anomalies persist.
We hope this does not affect your enjoyment of this unique and entertaining film."
A bizarre martial arts film with ninjas at the forefront, not terminators we'd be led to believe due to pop culture misunderstanding. The story is absolute nonsense and by the time the credits roll, you won't know what the hell just happened. The film does drag for such a stylized film, namely because the story has a hard time ever finding its footing. It is particularly odd to have a film take place in Japan and not have a majority of the cast be of Japanese descent. The action is well-choreographed and the stunt work is excellent for a low budget production, but the narrative decisions are just puzzling.
