"Iris and Isaac's first romantic weekend getaway goes awry in a most unexpected way."

OUR MOVIE REVIEW:

Picture perfect couple Iris (Molly Gordon) and her apparent boyfriend Issac (Logan Lerman) take a weekend trip to a lake house where they come to realize that their relationship is not what either of them thought. During some foreplay, Isaac is tied to the bed when it becomes clear that Iris wants exclusivity while Issac treats their situation as casual. Iris decides to keep him tied up in hopes that he will change his mind. In a panic, she calls her best friend Max (Geraldine Viswanathan). Unbeknownst to what she's walking into, Max brings her own boyfriend Kenny (John Reynolds), and they agree to help Iris get out of this mess without going to jail.

Molly Gordon is sweet, funny, and the right amount of crazy as Iris in a charismatic way that wins over the audience. Logan Lerman is likewise the perfect heartthrob and successfully conveys the ultimate portrait of a soft boy. The supporting cast rounds out a hilarious ensemble, including a few Nick Cross moments that I was not expecting.

Given the multiple routes a story like this could have gone, the execution of Oh, Hi! is solid and intentional. There's a key scene near the beginning where Iris and Isaac sing Islands In The Stream that basically explains everything you need to know about these characters without the need to explain it.

Oh, Hi! is an examination of modern dating. The intense flirting, the vagueness, the fear of commitment, the miscommunication, and the slight delusion is all condensed into this feature length comedy. It’s definitely set up to be in conversation with the politics of courtship and might even ruffle some feathers. Personally, I’m absolutely here for it. Say Oh Hi! to your local movie theater on July 25th.
