Broken Lizard are finally back! After releasing the sequel to their classic comedy Super Troopers back in 2017, the crew disappeared beyond their Tacoma PD series on TBS and now with this new release – we know why. Not only did we get this retelling of Quasi Modo, but we also received the news that a third Super Troopers will be on the way shortly. But the important thing is that, here in the now, Quasi has come to save us from the almighty seriousness of comedies nowadays and instead deliver a perfectly dumb feature that will make you feel either delighted, embarrassed or both to have watched it. 

 

If you’re familiar with Broken Lizard’s humor than Quasi should be in your ballpark, rehashing some of their typical material but to set it within the time period the film is set, the film does have moments of hilarity but ultimately it comes down to familiarity of the group’s filmography of to this point. What I absolutely love about the feature’s these men produce is that they clearly are just having a ton of fun doing what’s written on the page while improvising the other percent of the time. Now with improvisation, the comedy doesn’t always work at its strongest, but there’s an extra level of charm that comes off of the dialogue or action once you come to realize it wasn’t on the page to start. 

 

Taking on a classic story like Quasi Modo and transforming it into an R-rated crude outing that in all honesty doesn’t come together entirely, but you have to applaud the attempt. After all, an undertaking of this caliber certainly wasn’t on my bingo card but then again, neither was a murderous Winnie the Pooh in 2023. When it comes down to it, fans of Beerfest and Super Troopers should give this a shot because this type of humor doesn’t get produced much these days.
