ROAD TRIP SYNOPSIS:

Four college buddies embark on a road trip to retrieve an illicit tape mistakenly mailed to a female friend.

Comedy legend Tom Green (Freddy Got Fingered) brings his outrageous brand of humor to this raucous tale of four college buddies who party hardy on a Road Trip Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls, “a wild, whacked-out ride!” Josh (Garfield’s Breckin Meyer) has a major problem—besides the fact he’s in college in Ithaca, NY, and his longtime girlfriend Tiffany is in Austin, TX. A video of him getting funky with the luscious Beth (Crank’s Amy Smart) was mistakenly mailed to Tiffany and now he has three days to get to Texas before the tape does!

“You could get whiplash from laughing so hard,” says Good Morning America’s Joel Siegel, about this riotous raunch-fest from the year 2000 featuring high times, hotties and a hit soundtrack with Kid Rock, Run DMC and Buckcherry. The hilarious cast includes Seann William Scott (The Rundown), DJ Qualls (The New Guy) and Fred Ward (Remo Williams). Directed by Old School, The Hangover, War Dogs and Joker mastermind Todd Phillips!

OUR FILM REVIEW

Celebrating 25 Years, Todd Phillips’ (yes, the man behind both Joker and The Hangover trilogy) Road Trip makes its way to 4K resolution. This latest offering from Kino Lorber is bright, crisp and better than ever in every way. I’ve always been a Euro Trip kind of guy, having only seen clips of Road Trip throughout my lifetime and those clips barely do the film justice beyond exposing the comedy within.

While the special features offering may only have one new addition, unfortunately without a director’s commentary from the legend himself - the features transfer over from the Blu-ray release and they’re still a fun experience for anyone that hasn’t gone down that road before.

The movie itself appears to have lost a bit of its recognition over the years. Growing up, I always considered Road Trip like an American Pie level of phenomenon, but throughout the years - fans appear to have been distancing themselves. As a first time watcher, Road Trip has its fair share of topical humor that just does not work in the modern era of comedy - however it’s absurd in compromised humor from the late 90s - early 00s is almost nostalgic.

The cast does this script wonders with Breckin Myers taking the lead and Seann William Scott, DJ Qualls, Paulo Constanzo, Tom Green and maybe more playing support. The story isn’t going to amaze anyone familiar with the genre, but there’s enough surprises along the path to the familiarity that will make any newcomer easily want this for their comedy collection.

Fans from the 00s should be absolutely pleased with the level of upgrade this film has received, as Road Trip has simply never looked better or sounded better than now!
