OUR REVIEW:

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly three years since the first season of Severance graced our screens with the fine working folks at Lumon. Now after a quick recap to refresh the memory, Season two of Severance has arrived and is thankfully a brilliant continuation.

Severance is just as revolutionary and genius as every aspect of the initial season, with a further exploration of its stellar science fiction narrative revolving around corporate greed and mystery.

Each scene provides a sense of wonder and thrilling bewilderment with impressive and profound visuals. Where the first season told the story of the “innies” and rarely showed us the “outies”, season two fairly divides the time for both in a very captivating way.

Adam Scott is delivering a career best performance. He, along with his wonderful cast mates provide some of the most compelling character portrayals on television today. Britt Lower, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Zach Cherry work double time providing two drastically different takes on the same internal psyche. Tramell Tillman is the honest MVP of the season thus far, his behavior as a leader securely offers a sense of eerie nervousness and fascination that is profoundly disturbing in its own right.

We are introduced to a few new additions to Lumon and their appearance offers an entirely fresh mystery to comprehend. The show continues to strive forth with a satisfying mixture of the same monotonous work cycle from the original season and the blossoming reality that within the walls of Lumen something is horribly wrong. The series left season one with an absolutely mind-blowing finale, so far season two has been able to continue the momentum with ease. In doing so, it’s continuously been opening doors that lead to curious plot threads and it’s truly at the point where stress is beginning to seep into the reality that some of these doors may not be closed by the time the series comes to a close.

Dan Erickson’s creativity is mesmerizing in the fashion in which each episode holds any and all attention drawn to it. Ben Stiller returns as director for a number of episodes and while his direction is flawless, so are the other creatives behind the scenes such as Samuel Donovan and Uta Briesewitz. Similar to a show as phenomenal and influential as Breaking Bad, each episode has a slight difference for each director’s style, but the flow of the show persists in the writing to remain tense, eerie and mysterious.
