OUR REVIEW:

Solar Opposites was never a series I had the desire to dive into, at the time of its release I was at the brink of having too much Rick and Morty energy in my life and needed a breather. Now with season 4 here and Dan Stevens taking over the lead role, I decided this was the time to jump on and the premiere is an excellent starting point for newcomers believe it or not.

The show erases the original lead with a clever accident causing a fix in the character’s vocals to make him sound like a sophisticated British gentleman, AKA Dan Stevens. Unfamiliar with the story up to this point, Season 4, Episode 1: The Ping Pong table is a great introduction to these characters and in its own right a fantastic soft reboot for newcomers to join, while continuing I’m sure where the last season left off (to an extent).

The characters in this show are off the walls insane and the A-plot being about getting a Ping Pong table for the office and the B-plot being the kids hanging up to prank (but really kill) one another for fun. This episode is wild and full of infinite laughter as it never stops with its creativity, it’s bonkers storyline and characters lead to some truly hilarious moments as a new viewer as it’s fascinating how these aliens have become members of society so casually.

With some fantastic comedic talent at the helm, Dan Stevens isn’t a stranger to animation with roles in films and shows like: The Sea Beast, Central Park, The Prince, and Earwig and the Wig. He naturally fits into his element here and I’m hoping that as he continues on, his dry, snarky approach for the character will continue. Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Sean Giambrone (The Goldbergs), and Mary Mack cover the roles of the extraterrestrial family and all work off one another naturally - the siblings (Yumyulack and Jesse) are a perfect pair and so are the “parents” (Korvo and Terry). This show is truly unique and while I most likely will only travel straight from here, but I’m positive fans of the past iteration of the show will warm up to and eventually love the new concept of Solar Opposites moving forward - they just need to give it a chance over a nice game of "Ping Ping."
