That’s A Wrap is a self aware B-movie that explores the campy side of a slasher film while still delivering some brutal, drawn out kills. The creative draw of the feature, beyond the murders, is the homage and respect given to the style of filmmaking of the classic slashers, while simultaneously offering a few modern twists to the narrative. 

 

Marcel Walz’ direction brings with it a lot of genuine fun with its tongue-in-cheek dialogue and humor. Its characters are stereotypical caricatures and while a majority of the performances ham it up with the opportunity given, a few missed the clues as to what the film was trying to be from the start. The mystery laid out to follow the bloody breadcrumbs, leaves quite a bit to be desired, because once the killer is revealed - it’s a doozy with little effect - something that brilliant reveals from classics like the Scream franchise have made us so sour on. 

 

While I do believe the writing in places could have used a proper tune-up to better explore these characters' motivations and desires prior to their demise, the slasher elements are delivered with good intention while embellishing on the brutality and practical side of the effects. Blood and gore galore, a grand example of which is a scene shown in most of the promotional material, showcasing actor Gigi Gustin’s Amber having a curling iron forced down her throat and burning her alive from the inside out. If a kill like that entices your twisted side and you understand the low budget nature of a film like this, then That’s A Wrap will be a fantastic haunt to explore this Halloween season.
