OUR MOVIE REVIEW:

Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s Theater Camp is a brilliant mockumentary that brings the eccentric, out of this world energy of a theater camp to life for those who may not have had the opportunity to attend. The film is a wonderful satire of all things stage and camp, with pieces that are laugh out loud hilarious for someone unaffiliated with all things camp, it’s sure to be a hit for those with that connection.

With a dynamic cast behind every moment: Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, Jimmy Tatro, Noah Galvin and several other standouts. The film delivers some whacky camp related situations in the way of Wet Hot American Summer mixed with the comradery of Booksmart. The film is fun, catchy and a breeze to watch from beginning to end. Theater Camp only needs an opening number to seduce one in for the rest of the show and it’s impossible not to crack a smile as the camp goes up in figurative flames.

An experience blessed with a bizarre mixture of many different components that shouldn’t naturally work together but with the cast involved - do. Theater Camp is dry, witty, eccentric and most of all real in its moments of humanity. The film is front to back hilarious and Searchlight Pictures has a stick of dynamite on their shelf waiting to explode once it hits the cinema. This film will instantly charm and become a go-to film of the year and for us, a personal favorite of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. This feature needs to be in my collection today, if only it could be.
