OUR MOVIE REVIEW:

Kiernan Shipka stars as a high school student who travels back to the 80s to stop an infamous murderer from killing her mom's friends before time runs out.

Although it's now officially spooky season, Totally Killer is less of a traditional horror and more of a time travel movie set to the tune of 1980s slasher films. Think Happy Death Day meets Back to the Future. Or if you're into weird movies like me, you’ll be reminded of the colorful ambition of 2011’s Detention.

For a modern day horror comedy, I was expecting something a little more inventive. Unfortunately, Totally Killer’s attempt at trope-heavy self aware comedy just isn’t as effective as some of its contemporaries. It’s a decent enough time travel plot with mystery elements, but the story fumbles a bit in crucial moments.

That said, if you're super into modern takes on the slasher aesthetic a la 2015’s The Final Girls, Totally Killer will certainly scratch the itch on a casual movie night.
