WAYNE'S WORLD 2 SYNOPSIS:
The inseparable duo try to organize a rock concert while Wayne must fend off a record producer who has an eye for his girlfriend.
It’s 2 excellent to be true! Wayne and Garth are back (and front) in the most awaited video since Wayne’s World—Wayne’s World 2! Having achieved godlike status as a late-night TV personality, Wayne (Mike Myers, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) now confronts the question that has plagued man for centuries: Is there life after cable? Wayne gets his answer in a dream, wherein a very famous (and very dead) rock star says, “Put on a rock concert, and they will come.”
So Wayne and Garth (Dana Carvey, Clean Slate) present “Waynestock.” But first, Wayne must save his girlfriend Cassandra (Tia Carrere, True Lies) from a sinister record producer (Christopher Walken, The Deer Hunter), as Garth grapples with the advances of mega-babe Honey Hornée (Kim Basinger, No Mercy). Featuring appearances by Aerosmith, Drew Barrymore, Chris Farley, Charlton Heston, James Hong, Heather Locklear, Tim Meadows, Ed O’Neill and Kevin Pollak. Party on!
OUR FILM REVIEW
Wayne’s World was a smash hit spinning off an SNL sketch and harnessing the comedic powers of Dana Carvey and Mike Myers. It’s a comedy that has resonated with generations, but the second one doesn’t receive the same level of adoration. While the first one is in all terms and purposes, much more original - Wayne’s World 2 is a rushed sequel that somehow works extraordinarily well. The film’s biggest flaw being the major underutilization of Christopher Walken as the villain.
Carvey and Myers still have it, even with their obvious beef off screen - Wayne and Garth are absolute icons. While many would like to see another Austin Powers from Myers (of course I would too), a Wayne’s World 3 feels so much more probable if he put the petal to the metal. These two residing in the age of social media would be a timely concept but also something that could date itself just as easily. But for this sequel we have many returning faces and a few new ones along the way - namely the rock legends of Aerosmith gracing the screen.
The jokes may not land as hard as the first but it’s difficult not to have a smile on your face during Garth or Wayne’s whacky shenanigans. For fans of the first that haven’t seen this one, do yourself a favor and get a copy for your collection… just don’t be surprised when the film suddenly comes to an end — it’s surprised me how sudden it is every time I watch. And for those that have the Blu-ray edition (or the DVD), I implore you to check this version out and here’s why…
Wayne’s World 2 has a fantastic 2160p Dolby Vision (and HDR10) transfer that similarly to the original 1992 film is as crystal clear as ever on our screen. This is a comedy through and through, full of visual gags that are heightened with Paramount & Kino Lorber’s latest upgrade.
A brilliant mixture of visual and audio improvements come in the form of the “dubbing” of a fight scene between Myers and legendary performer James Hong. The dynamic sound and audio cues of Myers over-the-top delivery in the voiceover and the quick nods to martial films of this set tone are all immersive and hard to look away from.
Presented audio includes DTS-HD MA 2.0 and 5.1 audio tracks, a massive improvement over the Blu-ray offerings of the past. Core scenes of YMCA, Aerosmith, Mrs.Robinson and the aforementioned Kung-fu fight showcase just how impressive this enhancement is.
The 4K come supplied with a brand new director audio commentary and the Blu-ray comes loaded with a new featurette, the theatrical trailer and the remainder of what the original release entailed.
