WHAT LIES BENEATH SYNOPSIS:

The wife of a university research scientist believes that her lakeside Vermont home is haunted by a ghost - or that she is losing her mind.

He was the perfect husband until his one mistake followed them home.

Bathe in supernatural suspense as Scream Factory celebrates 25 years of the 2000 all-star Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfieffer thriller with What Lies Beneath [25th Anniversary Edition], available on 4K UHD for the first time in America.

The celebratory release will entertain horror enthusiasts with brand new features including a 4K transfer from the original 35mm camera negative approved by Cinematographer Don Burgess, as well as “You Know: Uncovering What Lies Beneath,” a feature-length documentary including brand new interviews with filmmakers and cast, among other bonus features.

OUR FILM REVIEW

While What Lies Beneath is a supernatural take on a Hitchcockian thriller that showcases Zemeckis’ filmmaking finesse before he dove head first into whatever his post Polar Express career ended up. While the film does over embellish the experience with far too many twists and turns, the perfect pairing of Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer elevates the material even at its worst.

Presented in Dolby Vision, this 4K transfer is a fantastic upgrade to the previously released Blu-ray. The negative the transfer originated from doesn’t appear to have any apparent blemishes or distracting grain, appearing almost as though this was filmed with modern tech. Comparatively the audio is all around a much better experience, improving the way the dialogue mixes with the surrounding plethora of sound. Not to exclude the score by legendary composer and long-time collaborator with Zemeckis, Alan Silvestri.
