OUR MOVIE REVIEW:
Imagine this - Bambi Meets The Toxic Avenger in a bloodbath of revenge not seen to this level of absurdity since Jaws: The Revenge. An absurd statement that a few years prior would have really threw me for a loop when it stated from the people behind the original Blood and Honey. Luckily since Blood and Honey, we have gotten my personal favorite upgrade Blood and Honey 2 and the bizarrely serious Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare - so expectations were up for this latest effort.
The biggest fear going in was the fact that this Bambi was entirely CGI and for a low budget feature, I was honestly concerned how it might turn out. I am beyond happy to report that this Bambi is stunning, while there may be a few weird movements that don’t line up with reality, for a B-Movie this is astonishing.
In the characters is where the troubles with the film lie. Bambi chooses to kill with both a proposed moral revenge compass, while also murdering whoever they feel like. The characters are underdeveloped for there to be much concern of any of their impending doom, even if the actors give their all to their performances against this digitally rendered stag.
What the film comes down to is the kills and they are wonderful. Bambi acts like both a wild animal and a skilled serial killer on the prowl. The executions are all over the place with originality from a person being dragged to a bloody pulp to a brutal mauling. This is an unexpected massacre with a surprisingly emotional finale. The darkest entry in the Twisted Childhood Universe to date.
Dan Allen’s debut into this universe is a silly, brutal experience that lands every extreme-natured kill by both Bambi and fellow woodland friends with bloody satisfaction. Forget your childhood… this is Bambi with a vengeance.
