OUR REVIEW:

Dexter: Resurrection takes bold swings, corrects some previous missteps and goes back to basics, all while in a brand new setting - the crime infested streets of New York City.

Four episodes in and this series is offering a return to form for Dexter, where the previous season explored an attempt of passing the torch to kin (aka Harrison), things obviously didn’t quite end the way fans were expecting. Luckily, this latest revitalization of Dexter picks up within weeks of his supposed death and allows Dexter to go back to doing what he loves: killing under Harry’s code.

Michael C. Hall remains as captivating as ever, his presence on screen is a tour de force as the legendary killer and while his age is finally showing, the series knows how to utilize it well. For nearly 20 years now, Hall has been Dexter Morgan and will always be Dexter Morgan, because he's just too damn good at it.

Dexter: Resurrection is pulling out all the stops with the return of several iconic characters, including James Remar’s Harry Morgan and the addition of several fantastic newcomers: Uma Thurman, Krysten Ritter, David Dastmalchian, Eric Stonestreet, Neil Patrick Harris and Peter Dinklage. In only the bit of time with Dinklage so far, it’s safe to say that his intentions during this season are more than alluring - easily one of the most charismatic characters in the Dexter universe since the Trinity killer. This mysterious cast of characters are ones to keep an eye on as their involvement this season is guaranteed to entice, possessing one of the series' most intriguing twists.

For those that weren’t entirely accepting the development of Jack Alcott’s Harrison last season - I happen to be one of them - in just the initial premiere he’s grown on me. Harrison’s character still has some improvements to be had, none at the fault of Jack Alcott, but I enjoy the path the creative team is taking his character on after the events of New Blood. Plus the return of David Zayas’ Angel Batista is a sight for sore eyes, but immediately worrying following Dexter’s presumed death in Miami and now revival in New York.

This new chapter ties up some loose ends from the original and sequel series, while opening up a few hefty garbage bags of possible scenarios this season could play out in. It’s tense, funnier than ever and purely what Dexter fans have been waiting for. Resurrection is anything but predictable and there’s no knowing how this is all going to play out - Dexter’s been through hell and back… what could be next?

Dexter is going through some changes, but not all change is bad - the code is back, the kill table is back - it’s safe to say the Dexter resurgence is here! Tonight’s the night… maybe this season’s the season.
