OUR MOVIE REVIEW:
Directed by Brian Netto and Adam Schindler, Don’t Move isn’t necessarily bringing anything new to the table in the form of serial killers and their victims. However it does offer a brutal take on the subject, allowing a menacing Finn Whittrock to fully unleash himself in the role. His eagerness, sense of abrupt anger and mysterious backstory leaves a lot of questions open throughout the film.
Don’t Move follows Iris, a grieving mother who happens to meet Richard the same day she’s ready to commit suicide. Richard naturally talks her down off the ledge and what would normally start a friendship, starts a horrifying nightmare for Iris. Iris wakes up in the back of her captor's vehicle, unknowingly drugged and about to lose all motor functions in the next thirty minutes. Will she be able to escape?
Iris, a suicidal woman now on the block to be killed by this madman is played with a sense of horror as she is prevented from moving for a large chunk of the film. Kelsey Asbille is excellent in showcasing her fear and frustration through the process this drug is taking her through.
The film is a tension whirlpool with beats of predictable outcomes, even so, they still come as a shock. Sam Raimi (Director of The Evil Dead) produced and as a horror icon, you’d hope that would verify a film of good quality but Raimi hasn’t always picked the best to lay his name on. Luckily, Don’t Move is killer in its execution and is compelling in its simplicity. Two prominent performances rise above the predictability of the script’s content and deliver a cat and mouse game worth every second of tension.
