OUR MOVIE REVIEW:
First of all - Indy is such a Good Boy, he’s adorable, cute and you can’t help but love him as soon as he gets his first closeup. Second of all - the film, Good Boy is a unique experience, full of interesting ideas, mixed executions, and ultimately won’t be for everyone (including myself).
The film is essentially a horror film that stays at the perspective of the family dog when things start going amiss around the house. Indy’s owner has recently been released from the hospital after a life threatening overdose and has decided to seclude himself in his grandpa’s old farmhouse. Strange entities immediately catch Indy’s eye as it’s clear that something or someone is following them, according to Indy’s enhanced senses.
We follow Indy watching over his owner and the house when his owner is away, barking and growling at things we can not see ourselves. As the short amount of time Indy stays with his owner at this new humble abode, things progressively get worse with Indy suffering from horrific nightmares and possible phantom visitations from those that lived in the house before. There’s a lot of mysterious happenings around the property and not all lies in the past, some lies entirely in the hands of Indy’s owner and their possible decision to relapse.
The film is less than 80 minutes long and with the unique decision to have a dog be the epicenter of the horror on screen rather than a final girl (or boy), it's natural to worry at every moment for Indy’s well-being. I feel this is a spoiler worth giving (sorry if you hate me for letting this air out), Indy physically is fine at the end. Nonetheless the film is a tense and meditative experience that by the end surely won’t make you feel good one way or another.
