'Scrubs' Review

Season One. [Revival]

Aired On: ABC. Hulu on Disney+.

Release Date: 02/25/26.

Genre: Comedy. Drama.

The Verdict: A Must-See

Scrubs originally ran from 2001 to 2009 and was an enthusiastic look at the medical industry, with a bromance for the ages and chemistry amongst the cast that has lived on for decades. Now 17 years after the series closed on a bit of a downer, Scrubs has been resuscitated for another go.

When we meet up with J.D., he no longer works for Sacred Heart and instead is a concierge doctor for the upper class. When one of his patients is injured near his old stomping grounds, she is admitted there and J.D. must go down memory lane and reunite with his former colleagues.

Four episodes in and the charm of the original series is still very much there. J.D. and Turk have certainly never missed a beat and that’s clearly because Zach Braff and Donald Faison truly are friends outside of this world. A decent amount of the original cast has made a return as well, with Sarah Chalke and Judy Reyes being the most notable - however as was the case with season 9, we have a new cast of characters to entrust our laughs to.

While yes, the humor has obviously been modernized, which purists will be taken aback by, but even with the consistent take down of modern society, Scrubs knows how to strike the right chord of emotions. One second you're smiling, the next laughing and the next feeling a bit depressed… from season one of the original series to today, the series has always been able to accomplish this feat.

The format is still very much here - patients are treated, jokes are had, and drama ensues. All accompanied by the always brilliant theme and opening, which just as well has been updated for today’s society. The show maintains its pride and true runtime of 20-25 minute average episodes, which is truly a rarity nowadays and makes things run a while a minute in the show.

The Scrubs revival is off to an outstanding start: the brilliant chemistry is prominently featured, the humor still connects, and the heart is still very much a part of the show. The premiere builds up our expectations, and the three that follow certainly deliver on them. An iconic series has an iconic comeback and I can’t wait to spend more time with the doctors of Sacred Heart.
