'The Pink Panther Strikes Again' 4K UHD Review

Updated: Jan 31

Physical Media Release Date: 01/13/26.

Label: Kino Lorber.

Form of Release: 4K UHD.

The Verdict: A Must-Buy

Peter Sellers strikes comedic gold in his fourth Pink Panther movie with director/producer/co-writer Blake Edwards, generating a torrent of laughter as the lovably inept detective Jacques Clouseau, now promoted to Chief Inspector. But Clouseau has no time to “rust assured” on his laurels since his mad longtime boss, “former Chief Inspector!” Dreyfus (Herbert Lom), has escaped from an insane asylum to a sinister lair and commissioned a doomsday device. Holding the world to ransom, Dreyfus places a bounty on Clouseau’s confused head — which cues a slew of international assassins setting off to slay the oblivious French detective, as he stumbles around the globe after Dreyfus. From its hysterical pre-credits sequence to the witty animated opening credits with the cartoon Pink Panther tributing movie legends to the outrageous climax accompanied by Tom Jones (and also Clouseau!) performing the Oscar-nominated song “Come to Me,” The Pink Panther Strikes Again hits deliriously funny heights in screen comedy.

Technical Review:

For it's 4K UHD debut, The Pink Panther Strikes Again is presented in its original 2:39:1 aspect ratio, taken from a brand new HDR/Dolby Vision transfer created from a 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative. Kino Lorber's restoration preserves the integrity of the original vision of the film with minimal cases of scratches and tears present. In comparison to all other physical releases of the film, this is by far the most superior in terms of both audio and visual.

Once again when it comes to previous releases, the audio is hardly comparable to the other outings. With a lossless 2.0 dual mono soundtrack and a 5.1 surround soundtrack, every aspect of the audio from the dialogue, sound mix and score are the clearest they've ever been with some noticeable distortion that comes with age.
