The Verdict: A Must-Buy

In 1992 a battleship's been sabotaged by nuclear pirates out to steal its warheads. Now, surrounded by terrorists, a lone man stands with a deadly plan of attack.
Action icon Steven Seagal serves up his signature brand of bone-crunching justice in Under Siege, the ultimate 90s action spectacle from director Andrew Davis (The Fugitive), co-starring Tommy Lee Jones (Black Moon Rising) and Gary Busey (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) at their most unhinged.
When a gang of mercenaries hijack the USS Missouri during its farewell voyage, their plan is simple: steal the ship's nuclear warheads and hold the world to ransom. But they've overlooked one tiny detail, the ship's cook. Unfortunately for them, Casey Ryback (Seagal) isn't just any cook... he's a one-man army with a taste for mayhem.
Packed with explosions, knife fights, and more one-liners than you can count, Under Siege is a gloriously over-the-top blast of 1990s action, now available in a stunning new director-approved restoration that packs a hell of a punch!
Technical Review:
Brought to 4K UHD through a scan of the original 35mm camera negative completed by Warner Bros. and approved by director Andrew Davis, with digital restoration that includes Dolby Vision and HDR10. In comparison to the 2006 Blu-ray release, this is an outstanding upgrade.
The grain isn’t completely gone in this new release, but it is much less noticeable than the previous outing. The softening of the grain from the raw negatives comes with mixed results depending on the individual scenes’ choice of lighting. It’s a 4K upgrade that is hands down a better copy of the film for any lover of the film, however it’s not the most impressive first time watch with not a lot of colors to showcase. Nonetheless it still looks fantastic, even if it's not perfect.
Featuring Dolby Atmos sound, with English SDH subtitles. The new track under the supervision of Davis once more with heightened dialogue and sound throughout, although in an age of a particular kind of audio in the early 90s this is the best it can be with the audio made for the time.
Plus a BRAND NEW audio commentary is a nice touch and a few physical bonuses make this a release worth having, especially for diehard fans of Under Siege.
