Aired On: Apple TV.

Release Date: 04/29/26.

Genre: Comedy. Drama. Horror.

The Verdict: A Must-See

Apple TV takes the sporadic nature of East Coast fog and makes it haunted for its new dark comedy Widow's Bay.

Matthew Rhys stars as Mayor Tom Luftis who is desperately trying to grow tourism on the little island of Widows Bay. When a heavy fog rolls in and someone goes missing, many of the town's residents warn Loftis against luring people to town out of fear of what seems to be old wives tales coming true. With growing concerns for the safety of the town, including his teenage son Evan, Luftis begins to question whether or not they're right.

Only two episodes in, I can tell this island has a wild ride in store for us. The townies, which include performances by Stephen Root and Dale Dickey, are all hilarious with their own distinct personalities. Through the situations, the editing, and the dialogue, it is genuinely funny and sprinkles in the right amount of spookiness so as to not overpower it. I could see the vibe shifting as the season progresses, but for now, think Ghosts meets Nancy Drew (The CW one), with a twinge of Bates Motel. I have been dying for another show like Nancy Drew since it ended, and I think this might be the closest thing to it.

What the show does really well is capture the feel of a New England town, while also highlighting the importance of small town lore. It's so fun to see the nods of real history sprinkled into the amalgamation of this fictional town.
