Of all the duds that Amazon Prime has put out through their hit or miss Amazon Studios division, I must say Shotgun Wedding was a charming surprise. I wasn’t completely sold on the trailer, but I’m glad I gave it the old college try. 

 

Jennifer Lopez plays Darcy, a blushing bride who just wanted to elope. But her soon-to-be-husband Tom (Josh Duhamel) insisted on planning a tropical island wedding along with both of their lively families. 

 

On the big day, the couple ends up in a fight resulting in them storming off. Little do they know, they’re about to get snatched by some pirates who have infiltrated the island with their wedding as a target. (We know this thanks to the cut away of the pirates finding the wedding location on the couples’ wedding website. Putting that on my “wedding don’ts” list immediately.) When they find out their family is also being held captive, Tom and Darcy spring to action, reluctantly working as a team to save their loved ones. 

 

To avoid giving too much else away, I will say that the story was really well executed. I love the sentimental moments that helped wrap things up in the end rather than being rushed. Not to mention the absolute unit of a supporting cast, including Jennifer Coolidge, Lenny Kravtiz, D’arcy Carden, and the one and only CHEECH. They were all downright hilarious.

 

I'd say this is definitely a perfect date night flick or even a hang out viewing. It’s got action, it’s got romance, why not give it a go? That Prime membership’s gotta be good for something these days!
